Did you say snow?

The Californian landschapes are impressive, from the beautiful coastlines to deserty western country all the way to the huge redwoodforrests to the east. So many things to see made the roadtrip fly by. The weather in Yosemite cannot be compared to the weather at the coast and we knew it would be quite a bit cooler. But when we arrived the parkgates we were warbed for snow and ice on the roads. Did she just say snow? We booked 2 nights in a tent!
Luckily there was no snow in the valley where we were sleeping, but temps dropped a lot at night and it was cold! Ruud made a fire in front of the tent that gave us some warmth after the sunset (real men make fire), but that didn't help us stay warm throught the night. We shivered till morning and luckily we could take a hot shower in the morning to defrost a little.
This was going to be hiking day, we took some great suggested routes from the ranger at the visitor center and hiked up the mountain to go see the Vernal fall and potenially the Nevada fall. Both falls are drops of the Merced river, somvery impressive. We took the mist trail up to Vernal fall, a very steep trail of mostly stine carved steps next to the fall making it a very exhausting and wet experience! But the views at the top were totally worth it. We took a small lunch brake and decided we were badass enough to climb all the way to the top of the Nevada fall as well.
To give you some numbers, the Vernal fall is at 5044 ft (1538 m) from the valley floor this is a climb of 1009 feet (308 m) over a distance of 1.2 mi (1,9 km). From there we climed another 863 ft (263 m) to the Nevada fall, over a 1.5 mi (2,4 km) stretch. The Nevada fall itself is at 5907 (1801 m). We got an incredible view of the valley and the falls and that great satisfaction of making it to the top of the mountain! We took the long way down, over a less steep trail and finished our 5,5 hour hike (total of 5.7 mi - 9,1 km) with a big hamburger in the valley.
Just before sunset we drove up to glacierpoint for the best view so far over Yosemitey. I don't think you can ever completely capture the magnitude of a view like this in a picture, but we did our best.
After getting some extra blankets and another hot shower we went in for our second night and last night in Yosemite, still freezing but a little better than the first night...brrrr
